Feature Request: Set variables on the business process level independent of the form

asked on May 19

The ability to set variables on the business process level, without having to add it as an input on the form.

In our use case, this includes environment-specific variables i.e. emails, urls, user assignments that we configure depending on if we're in a development vs. production process, so that we do not send notifications to users when testing or disturb production data.

I like this request too, it's a little unintuitive to make a field in a form, save it, then delete it just so the named and typed variable gets created for the overall business process to use.  The Process Details pane would be a nice spot for whipping up a few non-form variables.

Hi Becky, setting variables is possible with Rules Service Tasks. You can setup specific decision tables for example with different environment variables. Then, configure the rule to output based on the specific input.

e.g.

Decision Table:
input, ouput1(username), output2(email)
dev:     john, doe
prod:  emily, test

Then configure the rules service task to take in an input or a dropdown with dev/test, and configure the outputs to map to the forms variables you need.

Looks like you still have to map to forms variables, but this is a great tool instead of creating a workflow for it.
