• Is there a section inserted within the lists that causes the list ID continuity to be lost in the Word document?  Bug 673669 has been filed for it.
  • Please open the Word document in Microsoft Word and press Ctrl+Shift+8 to display formatting marks. This will show paragraphs markers and section breaks. 
  • Check if there is a section break (e.g. a line simialr to ===== Section Break =====) within the list.
• If there are no section breaks within the list, please attach your Word document here, or create a support ticket for further investigation.

You are correct. The merger list that's exhibiting this issue does have a section break toward the end, just before the next page.
