Question

Required field validation triggered on hidden fields when lookup rule performed

asked on April 21

I recently ran into an issue where required fields that are initially hidden have their validation applied when both shown and a lookup rule is done in an unrelated field. This causes the highlighting in red and required message to appear before the user attempts to submit the form.

If the fields are not hidden, then this issue does not appear. It seems to be only the combination of showing the field and running a lookup rule done, both based on the same selection.

I am currently running Laserfiche Forms 12 and using the new designer, not the Classic.

I did see a similar question was asked previously but it was in 2015 and the only answer was about the fix being in an update.

Any insight is appreciated and I can supply more information if required.

Are you referring to messages that should be triggered by fields showing before the form fully loads and looks up are ran?

I don't think so, if I'm understanding you correctly. These are validation messages that should appear after the Submit button is hit and stops the form submission until the required fields have data.

When required field rules are hidden, then the validation will not apply.  If they are not hidden, you can adjust your validation requirements on the form.  If you click the header of your form, on the righthand side toward the bottom you can adjust the validation options.

Hi Dean,

Could you share how the field setting, field rules and the lookup rule on "unrelated" field look like?
