Question

How do I troubleshoot this Rules error in LF Cloud? - A task was canceled.

asked on April 13

I am intermittently getting this error with one of my decision table rules when called from a business process.

The Rules service task encountered an issue. A task was canceled. [LFF6109-RuntimeRuleFailure]

I don't feel "a task was canceled" is the cause, it sounds more like the result of something that caused it to cancel. How do I see what the problem is?

Usually this error means that the Decision Table Rule timed out and was canceled from the Business Process side. This can happen if there is unexpected load on the Decision Table service or the Decision Tables are extremely complex (or possibly both).

We did see some load on the date that your table was run and have increased the minimum specs so load is less likely to be a problem going forward.

If there's still a problem please file a support case so we can investigate further.

The table is as simple as can be. I can not imagine we would ever reach a timeout, even with the most minimal possible compute available. Check out how small this table is. In this use case there are specific departmental folders that need to be set for archive based on company number. Every morning the department reviews submissions and reports to the companies. If this rule fails, the archives can not be completed and the companies who submit get left behind until someone manually retries. If I want to keep submissions being handled efficiently and sequentially without any being left behind how should I approach this differently? Should I not be using decision tables in business processes? When you call a rule from a business process I don't see any option to attach timer events or retry on failure, all we can do is email on failure to have someone manually fix it.

I agree - table looks pretty simple and shouldn't have hit any issues. The increased hardware capabilities we added should resolve any ongoing issues.

Decision Tables do automatically retry on the backend if there is an issue, but we can look into additional error handling in other places as well.

They retry on the backend? I am not fining that, I see the one log of a timeout, weeks or months go by and the process sits in suspended the entire time until a human touches it from the monitor page and tells it to retry.
