Laserfiche 12 – Folder Browser Type-Ahead Drops/Delays Keystrokes

asked on March 31 • Show version history

Hi all,

We're running Laserfiche 12 and have multiple users across different devices experiencing a consistent issue when browsing folders: when they start typing to filter/search for a folder name, there's a noticeable delay, and then the input seems to drop characters — as if only a portion of what was typed was registered. If the characters are typed out very slowly this doesn't happen. The behavior can be duplicated on the server itself as well. We have a mixed environment where some users are still running Laserfiche 11, anyone still on 11 does not have this issue at all.

**Environment:**
- Laserfiche 12 (12.0.2506.677 - on the server), workstations are a mix of 11 & 12. (this issue is the only reason we haven't upgraded everyone to 12 yet).

-Laserfiche Repository Server 12.0.1.237
- Issue affects multiple users on multiple endpoints
- Reproducible directly on the server

**Behavior:**
1. Open the folder browser
2. Begin typing a folder name to filter results
3. After a short delay, the search field appears to reset or drop characters — behaving as though only the first few keystrokes were captured

I wanted to post here in case anyone has seen this before or has insights on what might be causing it. A few things I've checked already-
- Folder child count as a potential factor -  Client folder we're typically browsing has 6,000 entries. We have separate folder with 3,000 entries and it behaves exactly the same there. Tested with a small test folder with only 8 entries and it doesn't appear to happen there, so at least to some extend entry count is involved.
- AV exclusions on Laserfiche paths - We use Sophos Central Endpoint, with exclusions for Laserfiche in place, though I don't think this has anything to do with AV since it didn't occur in LF 10 or 11, and the host server shows the same behavior without Sophos installed on it.

Has anyone run into this? Any leads on the root cause or configuration areas worth checking would be greatly appreciated.

*Update* I did see this on the changelog for the web client from back in October - Fixed scroll when navigating to an entry in the folder browser by typing the initial letters. (587616) unfortunately I don't see any corresponding fix for the desktop client.

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for reporting it. The related bug( Reference ID #595992) for the Desktop Client should be fixed in the upcoming Spring 2026 release.

Hello, just chiming in on this. The spring release made the behavior less annoying, now instead of a delay then it going to a different folder it seems to consistently only pay attention to the first 2 or so letters you type.

For instance you type WORLD and it only reads WO or WOR.

If you type slowly it behaves normally and will take the full string of characters.

Hello Matthew. To help us better address the issue, could you let us know which of the following scenarios best describes what you're experiencing?
Or, if neither applies, could you provide the exact steps to reproduce the issue along with the behavior you observe in the Repository Desktop Client? Thank you!

  1. the interval between two keystrokes too short, preventing the second input from jumping to the correct folder? For example, after typing "word" you quickly (within about 1 second) type "world" but it does not jump to the "world" folder.
  2. even if there is sufficient time between the two inputs, if you type the word quickly (for example, typing "world" all at once instead of slowly typing w~o~r~l~d), it still fails to jump to the correct "world" folder?

What is happening is scenario 2. And it's consistent across all our workstations running Laserfiche 12, including the Desktop Repository client on the server itself.

I type W-o-r-l-d quickly and it stops at the folder WOLEN

I jump back and try it a few more times, mostly WOLEN, one time it goes to WORCESTER. Seemingly only catching the first 2 and sometimes the first 3 characters

I type it slower maybe dropping down from ~80wpm to ~40wpm speed and it goes straight to the client folder for WORLD
