Question

Saving to repository pulls old documents into the file

asked on February 25

Occasionally, we are finding files that when saved into the repository, some older unrelated documents get saved with the new file. (for example, one file included a permit payment receipt and a report from a previous project at the same address) Is there something that I should be looking for in settings that might cause this to happen?  We are not seeing a specific pattern as to when its happening, so could it be a glitch?

Thanks!

Hi Luke. I would guess that the new files aren't getting saved with old files, but that when the new file is getting saved, there is a file with the same name, and it is merging them together. To change that, it would depend on how the files are being added to the system.

The creation date and created by metadata show exactly the same datetime and user as the document imported? I can't imagine a glitch like this.

Is it possible that the correct file is being saved triggering a workflow that brings content to the same folder from elsewhere in the repository?  I would look at workflow and see if any starting rules are executing when you see the issue.

Thanks for the replies, I will be looking deeper into this.  I appreciate having a few ideas as to where to start looking.  It seems very random, so there has to be a simple piece of the puzzle that is out of place.  Thanks again!
