LF 12 - No "Save as New Document" in Office Integration Ribbon Any More for Files Opened from Web Client?

asked two days ago

Good morning folks,

We are a self-hosted shop and upgraded to version 12 in December. Some of my users have reached out because the "Save as New Document" option (within the Laserfiche tab of the Office ribbon) is greyed out for files they have opened from the Web Client. The issue does not occur in files that they have opened from the Desktop Repository Client. Has anyone else experienced this issue? For reference, please see the attached screenshots of v11 vs v12.

This may seem like it's not a big deal, but we have quite a few users that will use historical documents as a starting point for something new, or use the "save as new document" option to save into the repository in a different file format - the equivalent to using "save as" in file explorer.

The latest version of the Office Plugin does indeed have that feature disabled for documents opened from within the Web Client.

We will be releasing a notable update to the technology used to address some stability issues, changing from the existing older Office Plugin technology to the newer Office Add-in.

For now, we decided to disable some features where the Plugin technology was performing unreliably to prevent data loss, as we take data loss very seriously.

Sorry for the frustration! We are hoping to address this in the near future.

I just checked - I'm on v12 and opened an excel document from the web client in excel and I have all three options, Overwrite, New Version, and New document available to me.  Maybe check the Access Rights (security) on the user & the file.

Might be security but Excel (in)famously handles document close/save functions differently to Word. Somehow the API is different. Thanks MS!
