I was wondering why we're not allowed to set a record as permanent, and only on the folder that the document resides in? We have multiple document types in the folder and not all will be permanent.

As of right now, some of the work arounds:

  1. Create a retention schedule and set it to 1000 years. (The record will stick around for many generations, but not truly permanent.)
  2. Don't set RME properties on the records that are permanent (This would make the "permanent" records look inconsistent with other records and end users would have to know that if the document didn't have any records properties that it's a "permanent" record.)
  3. Create a completely separate folder for only permanent documents. (This works, but if an end user prefers to drill through the folder structure instead of searching for documents, they have to know that additional documents may be in a separate folder. And if business rules change and documents that used to be permanent can have a retention schedule or vis versa the documents would have to get refiled into the correct folder.)
