Question

Scheduled workflow triggers email activity twice for no apparent reason

asked on December 29, 2025

Hi there,

I’ve been trying to fix an issue for weeks now. We have a couple of weekly report workflows that run every Monday at 7:50 and 8:30. The purpose of each workflow is to check whether the file dates meet a condition and then send an email reporting the number of matching files.

There is only one email activity in the workflow, but for some reason it always runs twice. One email contains the correct data, and the other does not.

I’ve rebuilt the workflow many times, changed its name, and changed the scheduled time, but nothing has worked to prevent the second email from being sent. Oddly enough, one scheduled workflow was originally set to run at 8:00 AM, but I adjusted it to 7:50 AM—and now the second email still sends at 8:00 AM from the same workflow. However, under the Activity tab, I can see two email activities that run at the exact same time.

I really don’t know what to do here. Can anyone provide guidance on what might be causing this?

I’m attaching some screenshots.

Hi Onur,

Please open Task Scheduler on that Workflow Server machine (Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Tools -> Schedule tasks).

Click 'Task Scheduler Library', check if there is any scheduled task named similar to 'WF8_WF-SERVER-NAME_WFXXXX' triggers at 8:00 AM. Check the description for that scheduled task to see if that is the issued workflow. If yes, please try to disable the schedule task. (Double click to open the schedule tasks, -> Triggers -> Select the trigger for 8:00 AM, click Edit...-> uncheck Enabled
