Hi,
We are uploading scanned documents into the LF Cloud repository. We are using Laserfiche Scanning Basic mode. We don't have the Perform OCR on new images checked.
The scanning part takes about 50 PPM. So in this case it took about 3 minutes to scan. The upload part is what is taking forever. Is it supposed to take this long for 130 pages? If you look at the snippets it took about 20 minutes to upload. We have 500MB up speed and we've allowed all domains and IP addresses based on the requirements that could be impacting the upload. Any insight on how to improve the upload time would be fantastic!

Question
Laserfiche Scanning upload time
Replies
Hi,
Thanks for sharing the details. Based on what you described, the scanning speed seems normal, but the upload time does look longer than expected. Upload performance may be affected by several factors, such as:
- File size and type
- Image processing applied
- Location of the machine performing the upload relative to the Cloud Web Client region (US, CA, EU).
- Network latency
I tested a similar scenario with about 130 pages (no image processing, ~300MB total), scanning finished in about 1~2 minutes, but upload times varied significantly depending on region:
- Uploading from a machine in the same region as the Cloud Web Client: about 5 minutes
- Uploading across regions could take 20 minutes or more.
To help troubleshoot, could you please provide a bit more information?
- File Type
- Total File Size or average page size
- Image Processing Settings
- Machine region and Cloud Web Client region
HI! Thank you for looking into this as well. I really do appreciate the quickness!!
- File Type
- We are scanning paper size A4 black and white and uploading it. The file type is probably .TIFF but I could be wrong. - Total File Size or average page size
I downloaded the uploaded file as TIFF JPEG to get an idea on the file size as the Cloud repository doesn't provide the size
84.1 MB - Image Processing Settings
No processing settings used as we want it to just upload. No templates selected either. - Machine region and Cloud Web Client region
SE and US
Hi! Based on the information, the file size (84 MB) and settings look normal. The main factor affecting upload speed might be the network latency between your machine in SE and the Cloud Web Client region in the US. Uploading across regions can significantly increase transfer time compared to uploading within the same region.
Here are a few suggestion to improve performance:
- Check if there is a Cloud Web Client region closer to your location (e.g., EU). Using a region geographically closer can reduce latency.
Besides, could you please confirm:
- Was the upload speed normal before and only recently became slower?
- Or has it always been this way?
If this issue started recently, we may need to open a support ticket to check for any service-related problems.
Hi,
Where exactly do we check which region is closer?
- Was the upload speed normal before and only recently became slower?
- Honestly, I can't say as we've never tried to import a file before with hundreds of pages. When we scan a few pages, it doesn't give us any issues.
It's okay, we've decided to go another route. I've decided to use the Import Agent method. With Import Agent, we scan the documents with the scanner's software and then save them on a network folder. This allows us to continue scanning while the server that has the import agent installed processes the files. Thank you for looking into it!
Our logs didn't show any slow response times around the time you reported this issue. But Import Agent was also importing documents at the same time, so there may have been a temporary bandwidth overload on your side. It's not possible to determine that from our side. Please contact your solution provider to open a case with Tech Support so we can investigate this issue.
