Laserfiche Cloud Data Source Direct Connections

asked on November 17

Can someone help me understand how the direct SQL data source connections in Laserfiche Cloud are supposed to work? The only part I'm confused about is the certificate piece. It asks if you would like to use a 3rd party certificate, or a certificate from the Laserfiche Cloud Certificate Store.

Does this type of data source connection require IIS to be installed on your database server? Where is the Laserfiche Cloud Certificate Store? Doing a search for that in Google produces nothing, AI doesn't seem to think it exists. There is an option to upload a custom .cer file, but it is unclear where that needs to exist within the Laserfiche environment On Prem. There is nothing in the documentation on how to do this. https://doc.laserfiche.com/laserfiche/en-us/Content/Resources/Integrations/External-Data-Sources/External-Data-Sources.htm

We've been able to use the remote agent option in the past, but we would like to know how the direct SQL connection works. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I'd take a look at our FAQ for an overview of the feature.  You do not need IIS, but your database server needs to be accessible from Laserfiche Cloud (make sure your firewall rules allow for this using our Cloud IP addresses).

In regard to certificate security, we require a secure connection to your database server.  The "Laserfiche Cloud Certificate Store" simply refers to a list of public, well-known, certificate authorities.  These are typically pre-loaded on servers, browsers, and operating systems and if your database server is using a certificate issued by one of these well-known authorities, you shouldn't need to upload anything.  If not, you can upload the public server certificate of your SQL server. Do not upload any intermediate or root certificates or private keys.  We will be releasing more detailed documentation soon to make this more clear.
