Question

Weblink missing random tiles when viewing documents

asked on November 13

Hello,

Has anyone experience the issue with WebLink, where it starts missing the tiles after viewing a few documents and eventually terminates the session and forces the user to log in again?

All I can see in the console log of the browser is the HTTP 500 errors (for the missing tiles) from the TileData.aspx.

Refresh the browser will reload the missing tiles, but this happens too frequently and quickly (after 4-5 views) that we suspect something else is at play here.

We have recently upgraded Weblink to version 11.0.2506.19. I don't recall this behavior in the last version.

Not sure how to troubleshoot for this type issue, any advice is appreciated.

H.

While I don't know about the tile issue, heads up that 11.0.2506.19 is WebLink 11 Update 5 and last month we released Update 6 with some important security updates for 3rd party libraries:

List of Changes for Laserfiche WebLink 11 Update 6. - Knowledge Base

We recommend you update to apply this security patch, especially if your WebLink instance is public facing.

Hello-

think an update was supposed to fix that bug but am not positive. Hopefully it did. We encountered it a few years ago and the workaround we set up--and continue to use--is a scheduled task to stop and then start WebLink's app pool in IIS. Running that every 3 hours has worked for us.

If you go this route, you'll of course need to verify that it doesn't mess users up (causing them to re-login, for example) and figure out the timing. I will also note that my developer was insistent that we do not just use Recycle, as that doesn't always clear things out. It's better to stop the app pool and then start it back up.

If you're interested, we do this as a BAT file and then the scheduled task runs it. I have copied the BAT file below for reference; note that we are also logging each action.

@echo off
date /t >> C:\ResetAppPoolIIS\log.txt
time /t >> C:\ResetAppPoolIIS\log.txt

CD C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv
appcmd.exe stop APPPOOL  WebLinkAppPool >> C:\ResetAppPoolIIS\log.txt
appcmd.exe start APPPOOL  WebLinkAppPool >> C:\ResetAppPoolIIS\log.txt

Thank you Samuel and Pieter for the inputs.

The update looks straightforward and our weblink is basically ootb, so we'll go that route first and see if it will help with the issue. I will update the post with my result.

Sounds good. Make sure to back up your config/customizations with the WebLink Settings Bundler utility first. The normal upgrade process doesn't preserve customizations so they have to be restored after. If you use the patch updater from the support site WebLink 11 Update 6 KB, I think that leaves customizations alone because it only updates the patched files, but better safe than sorry.
