Hi Blake,

We’re aware of the recent announcement and are currently evaluating its implications. Once we’ve aligned on a path forward, we’ll share updates through our usual communication channels.

Thanks,

Andrew

People should be aware that it's likely not possible integrate self-hosted Laserfiche systems with the Microsoft-hosted M365 version of Office Online instead of Office Online Server the same way. Last I checked, Microsoft only allows individually approved integrations from other SaaS applications to connect to Office Online for the embedded viewing and (co-)authoring experience the WOPI API provides:

To integrate your application with Microsoft 365 for the web, do the following:

  1. Be a member of the Microsoft 365 - Cloud Storage Partner Program. Currently, integration with the Microsoft 365 for the web cloud service is available to cloud storage partners. You can learn more about the program, as well as how to apply, at https://developer.microsoft.com/office/cloud-storage-partner-program.

    Important

The Microsoft 365 - Cloud Storage Partner Program is for independent software vendors whose business is cloud storage. It's not open to Microsoft 365 customers directly.

This is not something individual customers can do.

From https://aka.ms/cspp-apply

Thank you for your interest in the Cloud Storage Partner Program (CSPP).

The CSPP is for independent software vendors that store files in their cloud for third parties and want to add web-based editing for their customers' Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint files stored in the company's cloud offering.  To be considered for this program, your CSPP solution must meet the following minimum requirements:

1. Be a proprietary cloud storage environment owned wholly by the partner company
2. Provide editing capabilities for Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint files
3. Support only business and personal Microsoft Office licensed users

My understanding is that's how we have the capability for Laserfiche Cloud.

Per Microsoft's post Announcing the retirement for Office Online Server, it appears they are not even planning to allow self-hosted SharePoint Server Subscription Edition systems to connect to M365 Office Online. The comments section of that post is... upset, to say the least.

While we can explore options for the use cases broadly, if Microsoft won't let self-hosted systems connect (even their own), a direct swap-in is likely out of our hands.
