Question

Changing URLs for Forms and WebClient

asked on October 24

Does Laserfiche consider it to be "supported" to change the URL path for the WebClient or Forms?  for example:

or

I know we do it for Weblink but it's explicitly designed to support multiple instances installed in side by side IIS Applications each with a unique name.  But I've never seen it done (or tried it) with either the Web Client or Forms. There's a ton of URL rewriting they do, I'd be worried their code wasn't designed to handle that as a variable.  Especially Forms.

I'm not asking about side-by-side installs (that was just a weblink nod), just asking about changing the url for a given, single installation of Web Client and/or Forms.

You can change the Forms URL according to the response in change forms url - Laserfiche Answers.

That post says you "can" but "can" doesn't always mean "should" hence the explicit usage of the word "supported."

I'll assume at this point it is.

The second half of the question was the same question but for Web Client. Any info there?

The web client does not support changing the site name.

Even for Forms I'd put this in the category of "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." Think really hard about whether the upside is remotely worth going down an infrequently used path that very likely has some unknown unknowns and rough edge cases even if we casually tested that it worked in Forms 10 back in 2017.

I personally would never do it unless WebLink-like site name support came out, which isn't planned.

If you must have a specific "friendly" URL for users to start at, consider a single one-way 301 redirect from it to the main Forms URL like this and leave /Forms as-in:

or

Agreed. We were just pressed for an official answer. I appreciate the additional feedback and clarification @████████ and @████████!
