Process Diagram Layout

asked on August 13

Hello everyone!  This may sound like a silly question but is there a technique to laying out the process diagram?  The diagram for the process I am working on looks like a mess.  I would like to make it more readable.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

There is no perfect solution, especially as processes grow to be very large and with a lot of conditions. I personally like to read a process left to right top to bottom. Make sure condition outflows are labeled and complex conditions or areas of the process are annotated. If you make use of the annotation tools you can ignore/isolate parts of the process and focus on specifically what you're looking for.

You can also click the auto-space button and see what happens haha

I think as long as it visually makes sense to you and you can follow it easily when asked questions, you're good.  Sometimes breaking things into stages or even a sub process can help keep things clean, depending on the process.  On a more basic level, I like to use the Auto Space button.
