attributes question

asked on August 11

As I understand it, a user's attributes are acquired from the groups they are part of. However, I noticed a few settings attributes in a xml file. Do those come from the groups as well or as the user personalizes their settings? ex. [‏TOOLBARS]‏DocumentBigButtons YES would be a personal attribute.

I was taught to export a user's attributes from someone in their group and upload to the new user and I'm not sure that's necessary.

Thanks,

Caroline

The only group that can apply attributes is the Everyone group.  Repository Groups don't have attributes (I have come across cases where I wish they did).  So, if you apply attributes to a user, they will override the attributes applied at the everyone group level.  Here is the documentation around attributes.

Thank you. I'm trying to streamline my environment and when I explained my theory about the features being inherited from the groups and the user essentially creating their own attributes, a developer for a different software, pointed to a line and told me it was a setting attribute and I'd have to figure out how that was assigned. I think the info you pointed me to answers my question...smiley
