Directory Server Forms Application Additional Licenses Forms Authenticated Participant

asked on August 5

This option just appeared out of nowhere in the latest Directory Server when you edit the Forms Application License and choose Advanced.

I can not find any information about it in the documentation stating what it does.

Does this convert Non-LDAP participant licenses to LDAP participant licenses?

Chad, the option has been in LFDS for a while. This is not referring to the "Participant" licenses as you know them today, but the first iteration of that, which was known as "Forms Authenticated Participant" licenses. This is how LFDS allocated how many Forms Authenticated Participant licenses to assign to a particular Forms server.

I have never seen this and pulled up version 11 to find it was not there. This looks like a new release for version 12 to me. The sales team has been telling us there is no way for a customer to purchase the old licenses often referred to as LDAP Licenses (vs Non-LDAP) because they allow you to configure with LDAP instead of KERBEROS for some reason.

If this converts the new participant licenses a customer can buy now into the old ones they sold for many years, that would be huge. This would mean customers not using the LFDS STS module could buy licenses again. We have multiple environments where the STS module is not feasible for various reasons.

It would only show if the system is already licensed for Forms Authenticated Participant licenses. While organizations may not be able to purchase these license types anymore, the licenses they already paid for are respected.

Oh so if someone added X new licenses, they would not be available to increase the count added to the Forms licenses using this feature. That is what I was trying to understand.
