Folder Level Feature Rights

posted on June 11

We are trying to restrict Feature Rights at the folder (or file) level. For example, we have a HR folder where we do not want users to be able to download, print, or save a copy in anyway.

We have noticed that as soon as a user becomes a member of a security group with the Feature Right enabled, it will allow them to print or whatever anywhere in the repository. Even if the second security group is does not have access to the file or folder specifically.

I am guessing that we can't change feature rights at a granular level, and that it is a global setting.

Right. Feature Rights allow a user to perform a particular action at all, and are all-or-nothing across the repository. Access Rights are what can be set on an entry-by-entry basis, but they don't cover behavior like printing.

Is there any chance of this being a per-entry function in the near future? It is quite a risk to not have this. There must be many scenarios where a user would be allowed to print some documents but not others.

I also assume that printing would at least be tracked by audit trail?

Maybe "print" can be added to the access rights menu, so you would have the explicit deny option, which would then block that group from printing anything in the folder(s), even if they are in another group that allows it?
