Question

Question

create new database

asked on April 23

I usually got to IT with my database files to add to sql server. Is there a way I can use forms & workflow to add a completely new database to sql automatically? Provided IT is willing to allow access.

Definitely possible using scripts and with the proper permissions. If someone in our organization asked to do this, I would not allow it.

Thanks for your guidance, Sarah and Miruna.

I actually think he (IT) would pass it over if it was a little easier. I tend overlap in IT. I did not contemplate the background work that would need to be done. I was just thinking of creation and data maintenance.

I will continue with our current process, but may discuss it in the situation warrants a review of procedure.

Like Sarah says, you can, but since the database creation is such a rare event, IT admins are not likely to grant that kind of power to an unattended service. Not to mention that there's probably other work that needs to be accounted for with a new database, like scheduling backups and maintenance and setting up monitoring and alerting for performance.
