Feature Suggestion - More options on Windows Installer Failures to view log and cancel rollback of other modules

posted on March 24 Show version history

When we get this message. Installation Failed. The installation will be rolled back in the background.

The only option is OK which automatically uninstalls every successfully installed component before the failure was reached.

There is no option to view log, nothing saved in %temp%, and no option to keep successfully installed modules.

An example of why this is troublesome (besides not having any information on what is going on or why we are rolling back) is the Web Scanning installer installs Scanning and Web Tools Agent but continued to fail on every Web Tools Agent install. We found that we could manually install Web Tools Agent from the download available in the advanced options page where you check the connection, but since the scanning installer wanted to install both Scanning and Web Tools Agent (even if we already installed it ahead of time) it kept rolling back scanning right after a successful install and the user could not scan.

In order to work around it we had to install Scanning from the massive 11.0 on-prem package where we have the option to only install Laserfiche Scanning and bypass the attempt to install web tools agent. After that the scanning found the manually installed web tools agent successfully and worked.

The Laserfiche 12 Installer, coming early next month, will include additional logging:

And has some increased flexibility for bypassing prerequisites. It supports all applications that have a Laserfiche 12 version.

I can't speak to this specific case (Scanning + Web Tools) yet, but I can ask the Scanning team to look into it when the Scanning module releases (currently planned for this Fall).
