PDF and IFilters - LFFTS Errors

asked on February 21

Hi All,

This has been asked before but I can't seem a to find a definitive answer on this.

I'm currently running a re-index of our own repository, and looking in the event viewer I continually see the error:-

The TextProvider process was terminated due to an unhandled exception when extracting text from a "pdf" document. Search catalog: xxxxxxx Entry ID: 4429897. This is usually caused by a problematic IFilter or a corrupted document. Please install a proper IFilter and see if it solves the problem. You can also skip the problematic type of electronic documents by modifying the BlockedExtensions list in the registry.

The document itself isn't corrupt and opens fine, and also I've got the latest version of Adobe Reader installed on the server 2024.005.20414 but the error persists.

What is the recommendation from Laserfiche on what PDF components need to be installed server side to resolve this issue?

Cheers!

Chris

I recall seeing those errors previously post-upgrade when reindexing and the solution in my case was to uninstall the version 11 iFilter and install the older 9.x Adobe PDF iFilter version.  Alternatively you could try just re-installing version 11 and see if the issue persists.  Once your preferred version is installed, restart the LF Full Text Search service and re-test

Official links can be elusive but they are available on the Adobe site if you dig deep.

Last I remember testing, the version 11 iFilters from Adobe did not work with Laserfiche, but the version 9 ones did.

Thanks everyone for the updates/suggestions. But what I'm looking for is advice from Laserfiche on exactly what THEY are looking for and what needs to be installed to support this etc.

Is there any update from Laserfiche on this one please? Could really use some vendor guidance for a definitive answer. Cheers!

Taking a guess here, but I believe the iFilter is a separate component from the Reader.

I'm guessing so too, I just need to know what I need to install to make the error message go away.

Following up - it looks like iFilters are not supported, and the only available downloads are from suspect sites.

There are some other extraction options, including Python script, her:

Feedback from Blake Smith is that iFilter 9 is the one that will work.
