Question

Pre-populate advanced search menus

asked on February 14 Show version history

Is there a way to pre-populate the fields/menus on the advanced search page? Maybe using some URL parameters?

We're trying to use it for searching contracts. I can load the page with the search command for our contracts template which shows search results (see below), but this doesn't set the search fields.

/WebLink/Search.aspx?dbid=0&searchcommand={[Contracts]}

Ideally the advanced search fields would be pre-populated with Template > Contracts so users can quickly refine the search.

Hi Rick, I'm afraid this is currently not supported. You may use custom search form if you want some fields to be pre-populated.

Custom forms are not a solution because options in submenus don't update correctly.

For example, we have department, division and program fields in our contract template and they're hierarchical. When you select department, the custom form doesn't pare down the divisions to the selected department, and likewise with division and program. It's very confusing for users.

The advanced search does this correctly so we need to stick with that.
