PDF generation browser: Edge, Chrome or Chromium?

We use the Edge browser for PDF generation with Laserfiche forms 11. This is mostly for security: Edge is updated, Chromium is not. And Edge is our standard browser (vs Chrome). 

Last August, an update to Edge broke our Forms, of which we switched to Chrome to get things working until we applied the hotfix. This was detailed here:

Once we applied the hotfix, we switched back to Edge.

Just a few days ago, Edge received an update that broke things again. Laserfiche's workaround is to use Chromium, of which we are using until a fix is available.

It feels like we need to choose between security and a working platform. How have others managed? Or what browser do you use and why?

Hi Heather,

We would like to keep the ability to allow using Chrome/Edge as alternative for security concerns.

We are still working on updating the KB to indicate this issue.

If you are using Forms 11 Update 5 with the hotfix in https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1014543/ applied, the solution was to remove this hotfix. If you have files backup before applying this hotfix, just recover the files. If not, you could uninstall Forms 11 Update 5 Hotfix 1014514 and then reinstall it. Then restart the routing engine service.

Just this week, I submitted a ticket to our VAR to have Laserfiche open a ticket on this issue as well.  So, we are to uninstall the hotfix and then reapply it?

Our temporary fix was to switch to Chromium until the Edge patch is available.  We too use Edge due to security reasons with browser updates.

Robin,

Uninstall/reinstall might likely be the answer, but until Laserfiche updates their KB to reflect the latest issue, our VAR is leaving our instance as-is (we will continue to use Chromium).

Just to chime in.  We're using Chrome over Chromium and ran into a similar issue recently.

 

We are running Laserfiche Forms Update 5 (with hotfix KB1014514 already applied during install) and had installed hotfix KB1014543.  Removing hotfix KB1014543 as suggested fixed the issue for the time being and Chrome is working again for PDF generation.  Waiting for Laserfiche to update their KB as well.
