LF Cloud - Uploaded documents with Windows app use much more space than web browser

asked on November 21, 2024

I have been doing some research on import options and the file sizes produced through the various methods. We are seeing very strange behavior when importing through the Windows app and can't find a way to import in color with the Windows app without increasing the file size more than 20x once pages are generated.

Typically we see the size double or potentially triple when generating pages and OCR text. When importing with the Windows app in monochrome, the size is larger than standard color through the web app.

In the screenshot below you can compare the size differences with the various import methods of the same document.

And here are some of the worst examples after a recent migration into Laserfiche. We can see the top document went from 68MB to 2.06GB

Has anyone else experienced this behavior or have an idea why this may be happening? If we import through the web browser the file sizes all seem correct, but we can't import folder structure through the browser.

This is a cloud account and we are using LF App version 11.

Try setting the following trustee attributes at the "Everyone" level.

[Settings]GeneratePagesRecompressImages = True

[Settings]ImportJPEGCompressionLevel = some integer value between 0 and 100

From the Windows Client, log out and log back in and see if that helps with the sizes of the generated pages from those PDFs.

Alex, your suggestion helped quite a bit with the space used. Thanks for the suggestion.

We have also seen this issue but don't have a solution. In our case since the SDK STILL doesn't offer an option to trigger the generation of pages when uploading PDFs to LF Cloud for which we want OCR, we use the Windows client for the page generation and have seen similarly "YUGE" files result. Much larger than happens externally from Laserfiche even when generating color LZW images. It is a deal killer.
