Quick Fields 11: Barcode is read in sample test, but won't read when scanning document

asked on November 4, 2024 Show version history

I have a session with a Barcode as the First Page Identification. I scanned the document for the sample page and created a zone for the barcode. Testing this process, the barcode is successfully read. However, the barcode fails to be read when scanning the actual document.

Note: This is a file that was originally scanned on a Canon scanner and stored as a PDF. I am importing the PDF into LF as Laserfiche Pages, then testing the barcodes in QF.

I have tried a few things to troubleshoot:

  • Screen capture of barcode page and then create new PDF from the jpg image: This resulted in a successful scan of the new PDF document.
  • Exported just the barcode page as a new document in LF: This resulted in a failed scan

Please find attached:

  • "Test Scan.pdf" document - this is the PDF created from a screen capture. It succeeds when I scan it.
  • 801792 - barcodepage.pdf - this is a single page PDF of the original barcode page. It fails when I scan it.
  • AP Checks.qfx - I'm unable to attach this file...even when using an 8 kb file as the sample page, the qfx file is 6.5mb. This is a pretty simple session file; just a Smooth action on First Page Identification, then a barcode region which identifies a PDF417 barcode and conditionally looks for regex \d* in the barcode. The Page Processing section as a token assignment for the barcode value.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you remove/disable the Smooth activity, does it work?

I imported your 801792 - barcodepage.pdf into my repository, converting it to LF (TIFF) document during the import.  I then made a simple QF session that scans the barcode and puts the value into the name of the document.  It scanned and read the barcode without any issue.

Hi Bert. Thanks for testing! I tried a smaller, more targeted zone, like you did, but it's still not working. When I click 'Test current process', it works...it just doesn't work when I scan the document.

Yes...that was it.  I had added that because another test document wouldn't scan without it.
