.doc word documents not opening

We are having issues opening .doc word documents in the LF 11 Windows Client which is affecting all machines. docx files work just fine. Some insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

We (LF Support) looked into this and determined that their antivirus application BitDefender was causing the issue.

.doc is the old degraded format and may not be compatible with your current version of Word. It is also possible that your AV is blocking it or as @████████ alluded to, your system does not have a default application for .doc files.

The client should just be passing it over to the OS to open the file. Since docx files are working but doc files are not, it sounds like the OS isn't set-up to open doc files in Word.

What happens if instead of opening the doc file from the client, you copy the file to your Desktop and try to open it from there?

Right, first guess would be that there is no application associated with the .doc extension. If that's not it, Process Monitor should give some good insight into where this goes wrong.
