Question

Quick Fields has 'error reading file' when documents are stuck in the session. Documents are not recoverable

asked on October 15, 2024

When a quickfields session classifies a document but the metadata is not valid to store, the session will keep the documents loaded in the document manager.

This would normally not be an issue, since the metadata could be corrected and the docs pushed through/stored.

Recently, when a document is left in the quickfields session, there is no preview available, and even if the metadata is corrected, quickfields will state "error reading file".

This issue has not always been present, normally we should be able to see the preview and pages, this makes it very difficult to find what documents need to be reprocessed.

Does anyone know of a workaround or setting to correct this issue?

Hello,
We have encountered similar problems before (already reported a bug for follow-up), but I am not sure if it is the same root cause.

You can try the following checks:

1. Is the user who scanned the document the same account as the user who tried to view the document?

2. If it is the same account, did you use run as admin to open Quick fields when viewing the document?

If you meet one of the above two situations, you can try the workaround:

1. Run Quick Fields as Administrator
OR
2. Add full access permissions to the following for each user who will view the document
SessionVariables xml file under C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\Quick Fields\SessionVariables
    Files folder under C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\Quick Fields\File
(note: May need take ownership and re-enable inheritance in advanced)

If the problem is not solved by above workarounds, please provide more information and we can investigate further. Thank you so much.

This solution worked! (1. Run Quick Fields as Administrator) Logged in as admin and was able to see the pages.

I attempted to provide the service account we use with the permissions described in 2, however I saw the account already had full access to the two folders.

we will log in as admin from now on, thank you!
