Question

Directory Server Audit Trail Retention

asked on September 25, 2024

We have a Directory Server that is set to keep audit data for 90 days, but the there are folders in the data with dates much further back and they retain data inside of them.

Why would there be data from dates older than 90 days ago?

This is a problem because they thought they were only needing storage for 90 days worth of audit data but they are actually storing 14GB worth of audit data covering 5 years of activity.

Do you mean these settings? That's data in the database for reporting. There is no trimming for the logs themselves.

These are the settings but these settings are for the audit data logging. Turning it on and off enables or disables audit data logging, and audit log files are stored at C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\LFDS\AuditLog

Event Type Settings is the event types recorded in the audit log files.

I would assume if Audit Recording and Audit Event Types are both referring to the audit log data in ProgramData, so would the Trim Audit Reporting Data listed between them right? Why would one config in this window be suddenly referencing a different data location?

Do we have to manually delete the log files in C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\LFDS\AuditLog\Laserfiche_DirectoryServer?

Is it ok to delete the older ones?

Is there a mechanism to tell the server to only keep a specific date range, such as "one year"?
