Workflow Email (O365 Email w/MFA or alternative solutions)

asked on September 24

Hello, is there a way to configure Workflow to send emails via an Office365 account that has MFA enabled by policy?

I have a user who wants Laserfiche to send out emails from his account (so they look personal and the reply would come back to him) but it doesn't look like Workflow email configuration can be set up with MFA (or through OAuth/Entra for that matter).

We do have SMTP2GO set up for this customer to send out other Workflow notification emails but it comes from info@*********.com which this specific user would prefer emails triggered by a specific forms process to come from (or at least look like) they came directly from him.

Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to accomplish this?  I'm sure I could set up an email account for him SMTP2GO that looks like his email and then configure WF to set the reply to as his actual email but I'm wondering if someone has found a better way to accomplish this.

Obviously, if I could connect WF to his O365 account that would be ideal but MFA can't be disabled.

Hi Grant,

The simple technical answer to this is "No".

is there a way to configure Workflow to send emails via an Office365 account that has MFA enabled by policy?

Couldn't comment as to whether someone has a better way to accomplish what you're going for, generally.

Thanks Sam, I figured O365 email was out.

Hoping someone out there has come up with an alternative or work around solution.  I'm going to play with SMTP2GO and see what I can get it to do.

Hi Grant,

I haven't tried this myself, but microsoft does have a thing called "App Passwords". This is for programs that don't support MFA. I've provided a couple of links that might be useful.

Well now that's interesting. If anyone has successfully used "App Passwords" for SMTP with Laserfiche when MFA was otherwise enabled on the sender account, we'd definitely be interested in hearing about it!
