Question

Need help with creating a workflow to route files to specific folders

asked on September 10, 2024

Hello LF Answers!

I recently started working with LF and have been tasked with creating a workflow that can assign a department name to a file, then route that file to is respective folder within a repository. I'm sure this has been done to death before but I have to find a decent answer to this and I've been struggling for a while trying to figure it out. I'll include a screenshot of what I have so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

FG

If you intend for your folder names to match the department name exactly and the department name is already in the entry's metadata, this is incredibly easy. You do not need a conditional decision or an assign tokens activity. The "Retrieve Department Name" activity will create a token for each metadata field that you tell it to retrieve. You can then use that token to rename the entry using the "Rename Entry" activity and use the same token to move the entry using the "Move Entry" activity. Examples below.
