Appending Pages to Existing Laserfiche Pages in Doc Viewer

asked on August 12, 2024

Hi there,

Some of our group wants a way to easily append additional Laserfiche pages to already existing Laserfiche pages in the Document viewer.

I created a process of importing a document via import agent as a tiff, then a workflow (using the move pages activity) where they could apply a metadata field for the ID of the document they wish to append these pages too and that works like a charm.  I also know that we can drag and drop pages as needed if the docs already exist in Laserfiche.  However, they want to be able to add the pages right from the doc viewer (would eliminate dragging and dropping docs into the wrong doc, writing the wrong doc id in the metadata for workflow to fire off, etc.).   I'm not seeing how this is possible.

They are leaning to do attachment annotation for this but that does not seem like the way to go about this to me... I told them I would research more and see what I could find.  Anybody have any elegant solutions for this?  We are using the Laserfiche 11 web client.

Are the documents they are wanting to add to an existing document in the tif format?

I've told them that if they want them appended to the image already in Laserfiche, then they would need to be the same file type.  This is why I initially went the import agent/metadata/workflow route.

Not even the same file type. They would have to be tiff files because Laserfiche can't combine other types of documents, even they are the same.

Are there any benefits to adding the pages to an existing entry vs adding a link? Preserving the contents of both entries would be a better solution than moving pages in my opinion, but that may depend on your use case.

That said, in the document viewer in the left side pages pane, they can just highlight the pages they want to move, right-click one, and select "Move pages".

Hi Kevin, the want to see the document and it's supporting documentation all in one place and kept all together is the reasoning behind wanting to append the supporting documentation the document rather than separate linked documents.

While you can definitely move pages easy enough when they are already in Laserfiche, we are look more at adding new pages.

Ugh. I had a department that handled entries as folders similar to this. I insisted it was a bad idea and now they have folders with grouped entries instead. My issue with adding pages to an entry is that, at a glance, you cannot necessarily tell whether those additional pages are added or not or what pages they are on. With a folder (or linked entry), this is menial. In fact, it's one click. How many clicks does it take to scroll down to find the added pages? Hint: more than one.
