Question

Forms Upload using Phone Camera

asked on July 30, 2024 Show version history

We would LOVE to allow our staff to upload pics from their phones to Forms using a participant license. We have reservations about if the picture taken is saved locally to the mobile device. When I test this out I do not see the picture I uploaded in my photos anywhere.

Question: Do all phones NOT save the upload pics locally? Is this a Forms based feature? Or does it vary by device?

In other words, do all phone brands (Mac, Samsung, Etc..) and OS's function the same way with Forms? Or (for example) Samsung does NOT save locally but iPhone does.

Anyone been down this road before? The idea is to have a secure way to ingest documents but NOT have a record on the user's mobile device.

I am pretty sure the Laserfiche App works this way, but this is regarding Forms specifically.

Thanks so much in advance!

I'm not sure how it behaves on various devices, however, I would not expect that this is something that could be controlled by Forms. Since Forms is a web application it is almost certainly dependent on the behavior of the browser, operating system, and possibly device settings.

That's exactly what I suspect, but have never seen or read anything about it, so I'm not 100%. I have to rule this out first for, shall we say... 'political' reasons ha ha.

Been there lol. I've had to address comments like "the dropdowns look different on my iPhone" with just about every web app I've ever developed.
