I'm curious about how OCR works for Cloud. Specifically, does the document automatically get placed into Laserfiche's work queue when it is being imported? Is there anything that needs to be enabled in order for that to work? What is the average turn around time for OCR?

New documents with image pages will automatically get added to the OCR queue. If documents are imported through applications that generate text (Scanning, Quick Fields, Import Agent, etc), then they won't be queued for OCR if they have text pages. Existing documents get added to the queue if their image pages are modified.
Nothing needs to be enabled from the customer side. The language for automatic OCR can be customized.
As for how long it takes, it depends on the load, usually it happens in a few minutes, but may take longer if large document sets are imported at once. See the service limits.
Hi Grace,
- Q: Does the document automatically get placed into Laserfiche's work queue when it is being imported?
- A: Yes.
- Q: Is there anything that needs to be enabled in order for that to work?
- A: No.
- Q: What is the average turn around time for OCR?
- A: While I do not have access to the averages, I believe the service objective is "within 24 hours" (not an official statement, so don't hold us to that). The OCR worker instances that process the queue have some dynamic scaling mechanisms to help keep times within the service objective.
- Edit: Miruna said "usually it happens in a few minutes, but may take longer if large document sets are imported at once".
Hey,
Is there a way in cloud to see the outstanding queue of documents awaiting OCR?
Is it just a case of doing a search for all documents with no text?
There isn't, though Tech Support does have internal tools available to determine whether there is a backlog or why a given document may not have been OCRed. They'll need the document ID for individual documents.
