Question

Accela storage usage

asked on April 17

We're a city of about 90,000 and we're in the process of migrating some areas (Building Permits, Licensing, Planning, Code Enforcement, Fire Inspections) to Accela. Accela is hosted, but Laserfiche is being used for the back end file repo for all files uploaded or created. Are there any other Accela customers here who could give me an idea of how much storage we can expect?

Thank you!

Hi Jonathan,

A good way of going about storage estimations like this is coming up with an average document size (per area, if necessary), then multiplying by the known or expected number of documents, then adding a 20-50% buffer to account for things like the thumbnails, text pages, search catalogs, etc. that Laserfiche generates in addition to the documents themselves.

A main thing to look out for with the areas you listed are if there are large format scans of blueprints, plans, etc. that can be hundreds of times large than the typical Word/PDF document.

Thank you for the tip. I have a heavy count of attachments from our old system, but I think most are images and DOCs. The big drawings and plans are the unknown that nobody has been able to share yet.
