leading zero disappears in number field

I have a form where initiators enter employee ID's sometimes that ID begins with a zero.

 

Using the number field, the leading zero disappears after inputting the number and moving onto the next field to be entered.

 

Is there a way to make this work or will I have to just use a single line field?

You would have to use a single line field if you want to retain leading zeros.

You can use RegEx on the single line field to ensure it only digits entered.
