Question

Forms 10.4.5 not removing files from storage volume

asked on March 22, 2024

I have a Forms 10.4.5.331 instance where it doesn't appear that attachments kept in a disk volume are being deleted according to the Data Maintenance rule for File Uploads.

I originally had this set to 365 days and started to run out of disk space, so I changed it to 180 days and it made no difference in the number of files in the disk volume and now I have changed it to 90 days and there is still no effect and the number of files continues to grow.  Does this setting not apply to attachments not stored in the Forms database but on a Disk Volume?

Is there a process I can restart or start that will delete the files off the volume according to the 90 day parameter?

I am wondering if it was changed in version 11 to cover files in a volume outside of the database because in version 11 it's worded differently:

That's what I'm wondering as well, since version 10 says database.

What would be the best way to maintain the size of the volume? I don't want to just randomly start deleting, because I don't know what kind of links are in the forms database and how deleting files would affect the db.

Hi Craig,

Black is right that this is not supported in Forms 10.4.5.  Since Forms 11 we supported to cover files in a volume outside of the Forms database and delete unreferenced files. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@████████ what would be the procedure to maintain the old files on the disk volume that are no longer needed?

Have you tried to shrink your database? Forms only deletes the attachments in your database, but that does not necessarily make Forms database taking up less disk space until a database shrink. As described in Shrink a database - SQL Server | Microsoft Learn :

For volume files, you may try Laserfiche Forms Public Portal File Cleanup Tool - Knowledge Base which will:

  • List out public processes that may include a file upload field on the starting form
  • List out files uploaded to non-submitted or non-saved ("abandoned") public forms with an option to remove those files
  • List out files uploaded to saved public form drafts with an option to delete drafts older than a specified time frame
