Question

Link documents in Excel within Laserfiche

asked on February 28, 2024

Is there a way that I can link documents in Excel within Laserfiche so that I don’t have to manually update every sheet?

I want to achieve what I normally do by linking two Excel spreadsheets to automatically update them.

Hi Guillermo,

The only way that I've seen to do this is to download both excel files and then open them (then the link is enabled again). As far as I know, I don't think this functionality can be accessed within the web client natively.

Thank you, Hannah.

I'm posting this response I received from a consultant in a different forum in case someone else runs into the same issue.

______________

From the box, this is not possible.

Laserfiche is not a file server; it is a document content management solution.

And the way the documents are saved in the real folder in the background does not permit you to use the link to an office document inside another document. Because the folder structure is only known to the database as a pointer to the document, the name of the document is not the real one.

There is a security reason behind this.

To allow this, the Laserfiche server needs to be activated as a WebDAV, but this is complex and not necessary to work all the time; it is not really stable.

In a nutshell, this is not possible.
