Suggestions for moving a sandbox/development Process into production

asked on February 28, 2024

Hello.  I have made a copy of a production process, 'Label Request' and renamed it with the - SANDBOX addition so the copy is now called 'Label Request - SANDBOX'.

Then I manually remove the production users from the steps and replace them with testing accounts.  This enables me to continue development without the users getting involved.  My question is this:  I would now like to introduce the changes I made in the SANDBOX version back into production.  How would you best recommend I go about this as the production process has current processes running?

Hi Jay,

I'm afraid rename the production process is not feasible as it may affect in progress instances. I can't think of a better solution as both the prod and sandbox processes are on same server. Because when you make a copy, it's actually a brand new process then, so any change you made to this new process won't be easily copied back.

If you have some more time, I'd recommend you set up a test Forms server to for this, and import the prod process again and make the changes, then import back and overwrite, which is a more secure way.

Hi Jay,

I think you can rename the process back to same as production process, then download it, and import to your production server, choose to Overwrite the process, then it will prompt up a import dialog, where you can update the unmatched settings.

Thank you for taking time to respond.

That's what I was thinking.  There are some differences.  I only have (1) server.  So that server has both the sandbox and production processes running in it.

Would I rename production to label request old then rename label request sandbox to what the production was before- label request?

My concern is I don't want to disconnect the process activity that has been occurring in production.  From an activity standpoint, the sandbox data is older.
