Laserfiche Web Scanning Service Logs / UI / Something for troubleshooting

asked on January 31, 2024

We have one specific workstation where the Web Scanning Service was installed, shows as an installed program and we found the executable running in task manager, I watched it install with no errors and everything looks good except it is not listening on any of the 3 designated ports and nothing else is using those ports.

I am wondering where there is a User Interface, Logs, or something where we can see why the service decided not to listen but is still running successfully

I checked the start menu for a configurator, event viewer, program data, and appdata with no luck on finding any Laserfiche folder

Tomorrow I have another meeting with IT to troubleshoot and would like to give them a bit more information

If it matters, the scanning option we selected was Web Scanning

Here are some ideas:

There should be some logs in the [ProgramData]\Laserfiche\ScanningService folder on the machine where the Web Scanning Service is running.

The name of the process (e.g., in Task Manager) is Laserfiche.Scanning.Service.exe.  Sometimes kill it and manually restarting it helps (note that it's not a Windows service, but a process/application).

Make sure you've downloaded and are running the latest version of Webtools Agent and the Scanning Service.

Based on what IT said this morning, restarting the system seems to have resolved it, but we still don't know what happened and there was no Laserfiche folder under C:\ProgramData

It might be nice if there was some sort of basic UI to look at the status of the service, like a Laserfiche scanner config in the start menu.

I can go to advanced options to see that it is not able to access the port but I can not see why it would not start listening on a port without some visual information.
