get payment status from authorize.net

Is there a way to display to the user that their payment was Accepted or Decliened after they submit the form?  Right now after they hit submit the page says

"Thank you

Your form has been submitted."

Hi Jeff, 

I don't believe the payment event fires in time to display the result of the credit card transaction. I think it's submit > "thank you" > authorize.net .

In the forms process I create an exclusive gateway to determine if the transaction succeeded or failed. Then send an email to the submitter (and internally for record keeping) with the status of their transaction.
