Question

PDF Signature not being saved in Repository

asked on January 11, 2024

Hello,

Customer reached out to me with the following observation:

"I had a question about electronic signature in PDF’s within the Laserfiche repository. When we add a fillable PDF document into the repository that has a signature field the PDF plugin allows us to apply an electronic signature. Unfortunately, it does not save the signature once the file is closed and reopened. I think this may be because Laserfiche seems to use the Adobe browser plugin for viewing PDF’s. Normally, when Adobe applies an electronic signature to a PDF the application generates a new, locked file. I think Adobe trying to do this within the Laserfiche repository may be why the signature is not saving. Is there a way to use electronic signatures on a fillable PDF document within the Laserfiche repository that will save the signature?"

I believe this cannot be done with the PDF from within the Repository, as the save removes the Adobe Annotation layer for the signature.

The only thing I can think of is to have the user export the PDF, sign it, import it back in and overwrite the existing PDF.

Appreciate the feedback,

Jeff Curtis

Sounds like you are in the thick client, but you can do this just by changing the way you open the file.

Instead of double clicking, right click the file and choose Open --> Edit Electronic file.

Then in Adobe, after signatures are complete, do File --> Save. Then close the program.

This should update the original.

Hello John,

Thanks for the info.

When the customer tries the steps, when they are at File->Save it only gives them the option to save it locally to their computer, not back to the Repository.

Thanks,

Jeff Curtis
