Question

Automatically Logged Out of Forms Frequently

asked on January 8, 2024

Hello, I'm running into an issue with Forms logging me out multiple times an hour even though I am working in the software.  Forms is configured to authenticate using LFDS and I checked the timeout setting on the Forms Config page and it's not checked.

I do see that the FormsAppPool Idle Timeout setting is set to 20 minutes....is that what is causing this?

The Idle Timeout setting shouldn't be the problem. All of our Forms instances (production, dev, etc.) have the same 20-minute idle timeout and we don't have those issues.

Another thing to check in IIS is the time interval for Recycling. I'm skeptical that this would be the issue because those intervals are usually more than 24 hours, and it seems like something else is happening in your case, but it is worth checking it anyway.

The regular time interval for recycling (for both Forms and LicMgrSTS app pools) is 1740 so I don't think that's the problem (unless I'm looking at the wrong thing).

It's hard to say that it's even a "timing out" issue cause sometimes it seems like it kicked me out a few minutes after I had just saved a Form/Diagram or just ran a monitoring report.  I'm actively working in the software and I go to save or submit a test form and "boom" it fails and I have to log back in.

I can open a ticket with LF, was just hoping this was an easy fix like changing some IIS settings or something.....

Please also check what the session timeout on the LFDSSTS configuration page is set as.

What is the configuration page URL by default?  When I put in http://localhost/LFDSSTS the page is just blank.

I also tried https://FQDN/LFDSSTS and the page is still blank.

It looks like the default session timeout is 1440 which I think is the normal default setting

I was getting that, as well, until I changed the Forms Config to timeout on idle. Now I get the "If you are not redirected automatically, follow this url" looping page, which I'm working with my VAR and LF support to resolve. Even with that quirk, however, it helped resolve the unexpected logouts.

So you had to actually check the box to "Time out users after period of inactivity" and specify a time interval?  I feel like there is some other issue going on with my situation though....I was just kicked out 3 minutes after successful saving of Forms and process diagrams.  So inactivity can't directly be the issue because I was definitely not inactive....now I don't know if there's something wrong with LFDS or IIS and my activity is not being recognized and so my session is actually terminating when the inactivity interval is met.  I may start a timer next time I log in and see if there's a pattern on how long I can stay logged in before being booted.

I did open a ticket on this issue so we'll see if the tech can help me out with this

Exactly what I was experiencing. I did some research in Answers and found people saying to enable the inactivity timeout in FormsConfig to resolve it. I have a different issue now, but at least I'm not surprised by a timeout. The idle timeout in FormsConfig seems to actually track activity, as compared to whatever was causing the random logouts previously.

Okay I will give this a try and a set the interval to 180 minutes
