Hello,
For as long as I've been working with Laserfiche, this seems like a dumb question. But wanted to see if I could get some clarification on something.
When you go to change the fixed path of a physical volume, there is verbiage there that says something to the effect of "Laserfiche will move the volume for you if you haven't already done so." I've never relied on Laserfiche to do this, and have always moved/copied the data myself so that the directory that I point to already has data in it. As a result, the original location remained unchanged - no data disappeared from the original location as Laserfiche must recognize that it doesn't need to move anything.
If you change the fixed path to a location without any data, it does appear that Laserfiche will begin moving the files for you. I ran into this the first time today when I had a customer change the fixed path to the incorrect location accidentally (directory that didn't exist) instead of the location that actually contained the restored volumes, and some unintentional moving of data occurred. Again, I've just never seen that happen because I would always copy the data myself first.
Is that description accurate? Updating the fixed path of a volume will only cause the original location to "change" in any way if there's nothing in the new directory? If so, what all does Laserfiche look at to determine whether or not it needs to move the volume?
