Laserfiche question / answer test

asked on December 5, 2023

I have just created a test that i would like to provide to our internal employees. On this test, there are a number of questions that mostly have radio button for the choices and I also use the value of the choices to calculate the results.

Can someone or have anyone placed a timer on a form? I have looked through the answers on this site and I did come across a few things but what I am really looking for is a way to lock the test once that timer has expired. What I am noticing that once start the form/test, there is no way to place a timer on that but only on the next process in the flow.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You could have the initial form just be something where the user can enter their name and other demographic information, with the Submit button named "Start the Examination." That would kick off the process, and the second form could be the actual test with the timer. If you click the checkbox for "Automatically load the next task if the same person is assigned to it" on the first process step and assign the "Test" task to Initiator, it will pop open on their screen when the button is clicked on the first form.

Thank Jennifer for the response. I will give that a try.

Thanks for the response and I will give that a try. I do have a question about the screen capture you provided. It is very similar to what I have and my question is, In the process diagram the start message is what is going to initiate the form. How will the timer catch event work if the initial form has not been submitted in order to move the process to the user task?

Hi Michael,

Currently we do not have such mechanism on starting forms. However, there are some ways to achieve something like that.

For example in the following user task with boundary timer event, you can set the time that you want the form to "expire", and choose "Interrupt the attached activity". In this case, the user task will be interrupted when the timer is triggered, so the form in this user task will no longer be available.

To add a boundary timer event, you can right click on a user task and choose "attach timer event". You can find more about timer event here.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

I also tested the form as described and the interruption process works but it still allowed me to answer the rest of the test.

I attempted to place the timer catch event and it works as expected except for one thing  and i could have it misconfigured. When the time has expired, it does not give me my results.

In my process diagram, after the user task is started and i have the time set for 1 minute for testing, when that even occurs it does not send me my results. I only get the results when i press the submit button.

Set your timer to "Interrupt the attached activity" and that should do the trick.

In the next task which is an email, task I have it set to deliver the name of the person taking the test and the results of his test to my email. I can only get those results when the submit button is pressed.

Do you know if it is possible to interrupt the process and submit the form to the next task?

Does anyone else have any other suggestions on this request?  I have attempted the suggestion by Jennifer, and it works, but it is not exactly what I am trying to achieve.

Is it possible to auto-submit the form once the timer has expired?
