What is the reason that some organizations choose to retain a record's metadata post-disposition?

To prove that the record existed and was dispositioned properly
Thank you. I initially selected the option but it was deemed as incorrect.
It really depends on the needs of the organization. For us the correct dispositioning of records is kept as its own permanent record, so there is no regulatory need to keep the metadata. However, some departments want there own, redundant, information. These are usually departments where questions are more likely to be asked and need a speedy response.
BTW, in the Answers site it is polite to mark a reply as an answer if it meets your needs. It gives the person that replied an incentive to help out. L8r :)
Just one extra thing to add on this. Under GDPR law in the EU, sometimes if you've got a person name or any personal information in the metadata, then you can't keep this in some instances.
Just something to be aware of.
