Advice on transitioning Laserfiche Forms to a new Server

asked on October 31, 2023 Show version history

Hello,

We are getting ready to transition Laserfiche Forms from a Windows 2012 Server to a Windows 2019 Server.  Everything is set up and ready for the transition.  I am hearing that there would need to be a DNS entry change associated to Forms and the new server.  Has anyone done this before?  Do you have advice on what needs to change as far as DNS?  Are there any white papers or help docs available on this topic?

Thanks,

Christine

DNS is how users resolve your server's address by typing a domain instead. Domains are easier to remember than numbers.

For example when they type something like forms.companyabc.com it resolves to an address like 10.10.1.2

Often when you configure a new server it would have a new address, which means you need to update the A Record on your DNS servers that resolves to that address.

So once you successfully install Forms on the new server and re-establish it's connection to the database, you must update the IP configured in all DNS servers. You might have 1 or more internal DNS servers (most often 2) and a public DNS provider if you host Forms to the web.

Also if you use HTTPS makes sure to export and import your IIS certificate on the new host.
