Slow drop down lookup causing errors

asked on October 24, 2023 Show version history

I've had two different situations now where the lookup isn't populating a drop down in a timely manner and the operator hits the Submit button resulting in an error because of the missing or incorrect value in the drop down.

Is there a way to force the form to wait for all drop downs to be populated before certain actions can be taken or some other method that I can use to avoid this problem?

Hi Jeff,

In the modern forms designer, you can use field rules to hide or disable the submit button until certain fields aren't empty, which might accomplish what you're looking for here. Not sure which version of Forms added that functionality, though (my screenshot is from version 11.0.2307.40547). If your form uses custom CSS and/or Javascript, you'll need to test that it still works after making a copy of the form in the modern designer as CSS and Javascript changes quite a bit in the modern designer. Screenshot below of what a rule like this can look like:

In Forms 11 there is a built-in feature that makes the Action Buttons unavailable until all lookups have completed.
