What activities cause Workflows to have a * (changed) icon immediately after opening

Some workflows have this * icon on the tab name the second you open it, without clicking any activities. I am thinking it must be one of the activities in the workflow that causes this.

If you open the workflow, then try to close it, then it will prompt you to publish your changes, and only publishing a new copy will remove the * each time.

Probably email. We have a known issue where opening a workflow with an email activity may mark it as modified (which is what the * indicates) even when no changes were made.

Hi Chynna, Workflows using the default email server no longer erroneously prompt about unsaved changes when no changes have been made on Workflow 12.
