Question

How to recover partially corrupted entry in repository?

asked on September 19, 2023

Screenshot 1: There is a PDF that is showing up as blank when opened on the web client. Apart from appearing blank, it breaks some of the UI in the ribbon.

Screenshot 2: Opening the same file but in the desktop client opens it successfully.

Is there a way to recover this file?

The file was manually uploaded by a user and the original was deleted so it is not possible to re upload.

File type is "application/pdf"

File size is: 681 KB

Windows client version: 10.4 (10.4.0.311)

Web client version:  11 (11.0.2304.16)

I'm not sure I would consider this a corrupt or partially corrupt file since it opens correctly in the Laserfiche Windows Client. If you need a copy of it, I would export it from the Windows Client. I would also open a support case with your Solution Provider to troubleshoot the issue with it displaying correctly in the Web Client.

I agree. PDF is a notoriously complex file format, and different viewers will contain different bugs or handle non-standard documents differently. That the client displays what you expect is a strong indication that there isn't any corruption per se, just that there is something about this document that has hit a bug or a code difference. If you look in the browser console window, there may be an indication of the problem - sometimes the pdf renderer will note a problem with the document.

The appearance of the ribbon in the web client doesn't have anything to do with the specific file; it's because the browser is in dark mode.  We have a separate bug about that (481884).

I would look at upgrading your Laserfiche Web Client. There have been several releases since the version you are currently on and a lot of fixes have been released specifically regrading PDFs.
