Question

Reusing the same fields in the same template (like Buyers Address, Sellers Address)?

asked on July 17, 2023

As I understand it, standard operating procedure is to reuse the same fields in metadata for a repository in different projects? I'm doing R & D for multiple separate projects that will be hosted here and used for different clients and different projects for each client.

What if I have multiple address "types" referred to in the same documents? Like "Buyer's First Name" and "Seller's First Name" - How would you set it up to differentiate them? An "Address Type field"  with options for "Buyer", "Seller", "Mediator", etc?

Also, there could be transactions where the Buyer and Seller's names are reversed, how do you differentiate to refer to the correct "address1" field reused on the same document?

Thanks in Advance

Hi Steve

I think you should look into Field Groups. With Field groups you can add multiple fields to a group and the repeat those groups like a multi-value field. This would allow you to have Role field such as "Buyer", "Seller", "Mediator,  and then add the appropiate fields such as First Name, Last Name, with their respective addresses, etc.

The advantage of doing this would be to have less fields to manage specifically, as well as less fields to search across when using search.

Hope this helps
